The Country Needs Civic Engagement

Christopher Northcott on April 8, 2022

The following is a fascinating interview by Viva Frei (David Freiheit) with the last living Canadian First Minister from the patriation of the constitution in 1982, including the negotiations that lead up to this moment in history. The former Premier of Newfoundland, the Hon. Brian Peckford, puts the Covid-19 pandemic into context, especially as we consider constitutionally guaranteed rights and freedoms. The interview ends with Mr. Peckford reminding us that the health of any country’s constitution relies on the ongoing engagement of its citizens.

Mr. Peckford is also a contributor at the Frontier Centre for Public Policy and his contributions can be found here: https://fcpp.org/authors/brian-peckford/

Remembrance Day, November 11th, 2021, Village of Milo

Christopher Northcott on April 8, 2022

Gillian Williamson of Studio Lumen has produced a video for the Milo Community School Remembrance Day Service. This event is hosted annually for the Milo Community by the staff and students at the Milo Community School. The service is a joint partnership with the membership of the Lions Club of Milo. Area resident, Neil Northcott, performs the Last Post and Reveille at local Remembrance Day services and at other events honouring veterans.

Footage of Mr. Northcott playing here was taken in the Milo Library on November 8, 2021. The two minutes of silence offers footage of the local cenotaph in Milo.

Remembrance Day, November 11th, 2021, Village of Champion

Christopher Northcott on April 8, 2022

Attended the Remembrance Day service in the Village of Champion this morning. It was a very nice tribute to honour the sacrifices of our veterans and service members, to honour those who fought in war defending our liberty and our constitutional system of government. Thank you to the membership of the Champion Legion for organizing a local service of remembrance this eleventh of November.
